Winter sun, three very different ways
From October to April the Middle East gives us three trips that have almost nothing in common except the weather. The Nile from Luxor to Aswan on ARAX, five nights of temples and calm water. Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast, the newest superyacht cruising ground on earth with reefs nobody has dived. And Abu Dhabi for one weekend in December, the Formula 1 finale watched from a berth inside the circuit. All are five to seven hours from London while Europe is grey.

Most winter-sun regions offer one kind of week. This one offers three, and they do not overlap, so the first question is always which. A group that wants temples, history and a boat that moves while they sleep wants the Nile. A group that dives, or wants to say they were first, wants the Saudi Red Sea. A group that wants the race, the paddock and the parties wants Abu Dhabi, and only for that weekend.
The honest advice is not to try to do all three in one trip. The Nile and the Red Sea pair well, a river week then a reef week with a short flight between. Abu Dhabi stands alone.

Each is its own week with its own boat. The Nile is culture and calm water. The Saudi coast is reefs nobody has dived. Abu Dhabi is one loud weekend in December.

- October and November: the heat has broken across the region, the Nile is full after summer and the reefs are calm. Our first pick.
- December: Abu Dhabi's Grand Prix weekend at the start of the month, then the busiest and coolest weeks on the Nile. Book early.
- January and February: cool and clear, the peak for the Nile and the Red Sea. Mornings on the river can be crisp.
- March and April: warm days, thinning crowds. March is our second pick everywhere here.
- May to September: 40°C and more. We would send you to the Mediterranean.

Which of the three, and when
Egypt is the Nile first
Ask us about Egypt and we will talk about Luxor before Hurghada. The river week on ARAX is the trip people come back from talking, and the Red Sea is the add-on, not the other way round.
November and March
The shoulder months of the region's season are the sweet spot everywhere here: warm days, cool evenings, thin crowds at the temples and calm water on the reefs. December to February is the peak and the busiest.
Saudi Arabia is for the adventurous
The reefs are extraordinary and the infrastructure is new. Go for the sense of being first, with a group that does not need a beach club at the end of the day.
Abu Dhabi is one weekend
We do not send people to the Gulf for a week of cruising. We send them for the Grand Prix, on a yacht berthed inside the circuit, and we book it a year out.
Pair the river and the reef
Five nights on the Nile then a week in the Red Sea is the natural two-week trip here: a short flight from Aswan to Hurghada, and two Egypts in one holiday.

When is the best time for a yacht charter in the Middle East and Red Sea?
