The idea of the week

Line-of-sight islands, a calm channel between them and a different beach bar every night. The Virgin Islands are the first charter we recommend to most families and to anyone who has never chartered before, and a full week without repeating an anchorage. Fly into St Thomas on a direct US flight, board in Charlotte Amalie, and loop through the British islands and back: St John's national park, the Caves at Norman Island, Cooper Island's rum bar, the Baths and the North Sound on Virgin Gorda, Anegada for the lobster and Jost Van Dyke for the Soggy Dollar.

Every leg is an hour or two except the run from Anegada to Jost, which is three. British and US together: the border is a formality on a yacht and the crew handle it. Legs are approximate, at a steady ten knots, and the captain adjusts them for the weather on the day.

What the week costs

The yacht's published weekly rate, plus an Advance Provisioning Allowance, customarily 30 percent, for fuel, food, drink and berths, plus local VAT where it applies. Every listing shows its rate.

How charter pricing works

Also on this coast

Everything we know about British Virgin Islands: when to go, where the fleet is and the other weeks we have planned.

Open British Virgin Islands

Woven into the week

What the crew arrange along the way

The parts of the week that need a phone call before you arrive: tables, guides, instructors and the toys on deck.

The toys, every day

Seabobs, paddleboards, wakeboards, the slide if the yacht has one. In the Caribbean the water is the point, and the crew have them in by the time breakfast is cleared.

Diving and snorkelling

Reefs off almost every anchorage, a dive instructor on most yachts, and gear for everyone. The Tobago Cays, Anegada's Horseshoe Reef and the Indians in the BVI are the ones people talk about afterwards.

A themed day or night on board, at least one

The Caribbean is about the boat, so we plan at least one themed day or night. Tell us the idea before the charter and the crew have the costumes and decorations ready: pirate night is the classic.

The beach bars

The Soggy Dollar, Foxy's, the Willy T, Cooper Island's rum bar, Saba Rock. The Virgins invented the yacht beach bar and the crew know which night is which.

Guests arriving late or leaving early

No problem. Most of the islands have a small airstrip and propeller planes run back to the gateway airport, so a mid-charter changeover is a short flight rather than the boat turning round.

  • St Barths, Anguilla, Nevis and Antigua all have strips
  • Virgin Gorda and Beef Island in the BVI
  • Bequia, Canouan and Union Island in the Grenadines
Finish in Tortola instead

For guests flying on to Antigua or San Juan, the week can end at Road Town on Tortola rather than returning to St Thomas. Same islands, one less leg.

  • Beef Island airport, Tortola
  • Connections via San Juan or Antigua

48 yachts in rotation. The order changes with every visit so no boat is always last.

Make it two weeks

One more week, one more coast

A week is one country. Two weeks reaches the neighbour across the water, and the crossing is part of the trip. Each of these joins onto this week; choose one and we send both weeks, day by day, as one plan.

Back to British Virgin Islands

The other weeks we have planned on this coast, and when to go.
