About the Sanlorenzo SD118

Sanlorenzo introduced the SD118 at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2021, adding to its SD 'navette' range — semi-displacement yachts, a hull shape that trades outright speed for comfortable, economical long-distance cruising, built for owners who treat time on the water as the real luxury. Bernardo Zuccon of Zuccon International Project drew the exterior; buyers pick their own interior designer, with Patricia Urquiola among the studios offered. The defining move is asymmetry: the upper deck has a walkway down the port side only, while the starboard side is built out to full width. That gains genuine interior room without losing the walk to the bow.

Ten guests sleep in five cabins, with the owner best served of all: a full-beam suite on the upper deck, plus a private stair hidden beneath the main staircase that leads out to a two-level terrace at the bow — coffee outdoors each morning without crossing paths with anyone. Two VIP cabins and two doubles accommodate the rest of the party, every one with its own bathroom. The stern is where the boat earns its keep at anchor: side sections fold down to form a 19-square-metre swim platform at the waterline, and the saloon's side wall opens out as a terrace, so the main deck connects directly to the sea.

Sanlorenzo had sold five SD118s before the model even premiered, and it remains in production, so buyers can commission a new build or find recent examples on the brokerage and charter markets. Its natural rivals in the 35-metre class include the Westport W117, Benetti's Motopanfilo 37M and the Sirena 118. The SD118's pitch is balance: 290GT of interior volume (gross tonnage, the standard measure of a yacht's internal space), a top speed of up to 19 knots when required, and a range of around 1,650 nautical miles at 15 knots. Few boats of this size combine that reach with a private owner's terrace and a fold-out beach platform.

The SD118 suits families or groups of up to ten who want to cruise far and unhurried — long-range comfort, a genuinely private owner's suite and a waterline beach platform — rather than chase top speed.
