About the Sanlorenzo SL90A

Sanlorenzo introduced the SL90 Asymmetric at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2021, applying an idea first tested on its larger SL102 in 2018: build a yacht with only one side walkway. Conceived with car designer Chris Bangle and drawn by Bernardo Zuccon of Zuccon International Project, the design keeps a walkway along the starboard side but deletes the port one at main-deck level, moving that route up a deck. The space saved — roughly ten to fifteen per cent more room in the main saloon, the yacht's living room — is the whole point: big-boat interiors on a 90-foot hull.

That extra width shows the moment you step into the saloon, which runs right out to the port side. The owner's cabin sits forward on the same deck — an arrangement usually found on much larger yachts — with its own door onto a private foredeck terrace. Three further cabins below sleep the rest of an eight-guest party, while a crew of around four work from a separate galley and passage on the starboard side. Up top, the open flybridge covers sunbathing and lunch, and a garage stows the four-metre tender. Twin diesels deliver 29 knots flat out, 25 at a cruise, and close to 1,000 nautical miles at gentler speeds.

Sanlorenzo builds each SL90 Asymmetric semi-custom: at launch the yard quoted a starting price of about €7.3 million, with an interior fit-out allowance of up to €400,000 and the yard's own design managers — or bring your own designer — so no two hulls are alike. Reviewers measure it against the Princess Y95, Riva 90 Argo and Ferretti's INFYNITO 90, all conventional layouts. The case for this one is straightforward: a main-deck owner's suite and the extra saloon width that missing walkway pays for — something rivals of this length can't offer without going bigger — in a boat still compact enough for tight Mediterranean harbours.

It suits an owner or charter party who wants a genuine main-deck master suite and the living space of a much larger yacht without stepping up to a 30-metre-plus boat, with the crew, cost and berth that come with one.
