The idea of the week

Most Komodo weeks stay in the north and centre of the park, where the famous sites are. THE ORACLE's seven-night route does those, then gives a full day to South Rinca: cliffs, forest, quiet bays, cooler water full of soft coral and nudibranchs, and the chance of dolphins, whales and mobula rays. It is the Komodo almost nobody sees, and with six guests and ten crew it is done at whatever pace you set.

Her team recommend arriving in Labuan Bajo the day before so that check-in, between six and eleven in the morning, is unhurried. Massages on deck are part of the week, not an extra, and the spa therapist travels with you.

THE ORACLE also sells this as four nights, Padar and Manta Point, the southwest and Sebayur, and as five nights adding Rinca. The seven-night version below is the one we would choose.

THE ORACLE

35 metres, 3 cabins for 6. Six guests, ten crew. Yoga on the foredeck, a spa therapist, Starlink, and the routes below written by her own team. The most looked-after six people in Indonesia.

What the crew arrange along the way

South Rinca

A full day in the part of the park the day boats never reach, with the yacht as the only thing in the bay.

The classics, at a better hour

Padar at sunset rather than sunrise with the crowds, the dragons at dawn, mantas when the tide is right.

Looked after

Ten crew for six guests, a spa therapist, yoga mats on the foredeck and Starlink for the office you promised not to check.

Day by day

1

Labuan Bajo

Board between six and eleven, and settle in

Labuan Bajo is the gateway to the park, with daily direct flights from Bali. Arrive the day before if you can. Check-in is between six and eleven, the crew brief you over lunch, and the boat heads into the park.

  • Check-in 06:00 to 11:00
  • Crew brief over lunch
  • Into the park by afternoon
2

Gili Lawa Laut

Turtles and reef sharks, then the ridge for sunset

Snorkel or dive reefs busy with turtles, reef sharks and schooling fish. Kayak, paddleboard or lie on the beach, then a short hike to the viewpoint over the turquoise bays and the rugged coast before a slow cruise into the sunset.

  • Turtles and reef sharks
  • Kayaks and paddleboards
  • Sunset from the ridge
3

Padar and the central park

Padar Island · Batu Bolong, Taka Makassar, Mawan, then the sunset trek

Into the heart of the park: Batu Bolong, Taka Makassar, Mawan and Siaba Besar. Strong currents pull in trevally, tuna and barracuda, and mantas feed at Taka Makassar. In the afternoon the sunset trek on Padar for the three-bay view, then a massage and dinner back on board.

  • Batu Bolong pinnacle
  • Mantas at Taka Makassar
  • Padar sunset trek
  • Massage on deck
4

Rinca

Rinca Island · Dragons at first light, kayaks in Komodo Bay, Pink Beach, Nusa Kode

Out early with the crew and local rangers to find Komodo dragons, with buffalo, monkeys and deer on the way. Breakfast back on board, then kayaks and paddleboards in Komodo Bay, Pink Beach, and on to Nusa Kode for the night.

  • Ranger-led dragon walk at dawn
  • Kayaks in Komodo Bay
  • Pink Beach
  • Overnight at Nusa Kode
5

South Rinca

The wild south: cliffs, cool water and the chance of whales

Dramatic cliffs and forest, quiet bays, and wildlife everywhere: monkeys, deer, wild boar, sea eagles and now and then a dragon on the beach. The water is cooler and richer, with soft corals, nudibranchs and turtles, and dolphins, whales or mobula rays pass through. A remote, slow afternoon and a quiet anchorage.

  • South Rinca's cliffs and bays
  • Cooler, nutrient-rich diving
  • Dolphins, whales and mobulas when lucky
  • A silent anchorage
6

Manta Point

Makassar Reef · Mantas in clear water, then an afternoon of nothing

Snorkel or dive with mantas in calm, clear water over Makassar Reef. The afternoon is at leisure: swim in a turquoise bay, sunbathe, or watch the islands go by from the deck as the boat cruises north.

  • Mantas at Makassar Reef
  • An afternoon at anchor
  • The cruise through the islands
7

Sebayur

Sebayur islands · A village, a massage, a beach, and dinner on the sand

Just outside the park, the Sebayur islands are made for water sports and for doing very little. Visit a small village that welcomes visitors, have a massage on board, read on a secluded beach, and dive or snorkel depending on tomorrow's flight. Dinner on the beach or under the stars on the top deck.

  • Village visit
  • Spa therapist on board
  • Last dives
  • Dinner on the beach
8

Labuan Bajo

A last breakfast and the transfer

A last breakfast on deck, then the crew take you to the airport or your hotel.

  • Breakfast on deck
  • Transfer to the airport or hotel
