The idea of the week

ARCTIC's home waters, and the easiest way into Norway. Out of Bergen and back, with two of the great fjord systems, Hardanger and Sogn, the waterfalls, and a helicopter onto the glaciers above them. Short legs, one easy day at sea in the middle, and no flights at either end but Bergen.

It is the week for a first trip this far north, for families, and for anyone who wants the classic Norway: the cider farms, the Viking valley, the steep little railway, and an island at the edge of the Atlantic with one fisherman and a distillery.

The days are the route we would suggest. On board, the captain sets the final one around the ice, the weather and the wildlife, and every week can be reshaped around your group.

Woven into the week

What the crew arrange along the way

The parts of the week that need a phone call before you arrive: tables, guides, instructors and the toys on deck.

The tender fleet

ARCTIC carries one of the largest tender fleets in charter: Zodiacs and RIBs for the glacier fronts and the whales, kayaks and paddleboards for the still mornings, dive gear and room for an ROV. Wherever she anchors, there is a way onto the water or the ice.

A floating sauna

A wood-fired sauna on the water, with a jump into the fjord between rounds. The Norwegian way to end any day.

The polar plunge, then the hot tub

Someone always goes first. A swim in the fjord or among the ice, straight into the Jacuzzi on deck or the sauna, and a story you will tell for years.

The helideck

A helicopter on board turns a glacier into a lunch stop. Landings on the ice, flights over the peaks, a dinner reached by air. Where it can fly depends on local permits, which we arrange before the charter.

  • Glacier landings
  • Flightseeing over the peaks and the ice
  • Dinner reached by air
  • Subject to local permits
A polar guide on board

We always recommend it. A full-time guide is what opens the doors: the orca days, the Sámi families, the farm dinners, the hidden beaches the guidebooks do not have. It is the Explorer level on ARCTIC's listing, and where we start every plan.

  • A full-time polar guide for the week
  • Local hosts, skippers and restaurants
  • The Explorer level on ARCTIC's listing
More nights

Every week here is seven nights because that is how ARCTIC's programme runs, but any of them can grow. Two regions back to back is the trip of a lifetime: the fjords then the Arctic Circle, or Iceland then East Greenland.

  • Add nights to any route
  • Join two routes into one voyage
  • Ask us which regions she is in which month
