Charter Costs

What's included in my charter fee?

Your Charter fee will normally include the price of the yacht, the crew, and the yacht’s insurance.

Advanced Provisioning Allowance (APA)

APA is charged in addition to your charter fee and is required to cover your personal expenses. This includes fuel, food, beverage, docking fees and any other expenses you incur whilst on charter. APA is calculated as an amount equal to 30% of the charter fee.
Any APA money not spent will be refunded to you, following the end of a charter. If your expenses exceed APA, you will be expected to reimburse the yacht as you leave.

Your tax owed will be calculated based on the country where your charter starts and may vary depending on the countries you visit during your charter.

VAT in the Mediterranean ranges up to 22%. Yachts that cruise into international waters may be subject to a lower tax rate. Ahoy Club work alongside global tax authorities to ensure you are getting the best value for your trip.

There is no tax applied in the Caribbean.

Tipping is not mandatory, but it is customary to tip your crew for their service while you were on board. Tips are normally handed to the Captain on the last day of your charter.

Charter Payments

A deposit of 50 per cent of your charter fee is due upon booking. The final 50 per cent of your charter fee, plus any additional costs (like APA & VAT) are due five weeks before your charter start date.

Yacht Seasonality

High season vs. low season

Yachts have two basic rates: high season rates (covering the peak months of summer) and low season rates (covering the shoulder months of summer). For example, the Mediterranean high season covers June, July, August and its low season covers May, September, October.

The difference in cost from high season to low season is normally between €10,000 - €20,000. If you choose your travel times carefully, you can benefit from low season rates and still enjoy close to perfect weather in the shoulder months.

Special events can also increase a yachts pricing, like New Year’s Eve, Monaco Grand Prix, Cannes Film Festival, the OlympicsAmerica’s Cup.

Preparing for your charter

Preference Sheet and Itineraries

Once your charter is confirmed, Ahoy Club will supply you with an electronic preference sheet where you detail everything you would like to eat, drink and experience on your charter. Your yacht crew will purchase all these items prior to your arrival.

Our Ahoy Club Concierge Team work collaboratively with every charter client to create their bespoke itinerary and unforgettable charter journey whilst taking care of all desired restaurant bookings, port bookings, private flying, car transfers or whatever you need – we remain on standby leading into and through your whole charter journey.

Do I need insurance?

General insurance is available on commercial yachts, but it is recommended that charterers hold their own insurance such as and not limited to travel insurance, cancellation, curtailment, personal accident, medical personal effects and liability insurance.

If you decide to cancel your charter without permittable reason, you may not be entitled to receive a refund of any monies already paid unless the Owner in its sole discretion agrees otherwise. Ahoy Club will make its best endeavours to re-let the yacht, which may entitle you to some money back.

COVID-19 Cancellations

Many yachts are offering flexible cancellation policies amidst the COVID-19 environment. Your Ahoy Club account manager will give comprehensive guidance on yacht policies and border legislation which vary across our global destinations
